I wanted a space to put together my thoughts, ideas, and information pertaining to things that can be put under the solarpunk umbrella.
But let me lay down some basic thoughts on solarpunk before you go any deeper.
1. I'm going to talk about solarpunk from a social movement perspective, rather than the sci-fi perspective. I love the sci-fi genre, it's what got me into solarpunk, and I think it's important as a tool to imagine a future we want to see, a post-capitalist, egalitarian, sustainable future that supports people and plant. But i mostly want to talk about actions we can take to build this future, and current-day struggles happening in the world. Basically Solarpunk (sci-fi genre) = the vision of the future we are fighting for; and Solarpunk (social movement) = actions taken to achieve this goal.
2. Much of what we see when we talk about politically active people are disrupters AKA people who take direct action to achieve social and political progress. (think protests, sit-ins) But I try not to focus solely on being a disrupter as a way to bring about change. While I think it's great, and people should always be unafraid of being disruptive to the current political enviroment, it's not always accessiable to everyone. There is a number of people who may be unable, for various reasons, to take part in direct action. I also want to create a space for those people as well.
